    Windows 7/ Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1

    Dynamic Memory

Dynamic Memory allows memory to be used more efficiently; memory is treated as a shared resource and may be reallocated automatically among virtual machines.

The amount of memory available to a VM is adjusted based on memory demand and values you specify.

Before SP1 changing the amount of memory in a VM required shutting down the VM, this may be achieved automatically with SP1.

    Remote FX

Remote FX extends the functionality of Remote Desktop Services in Server 2008 R2.

With Microsoft Remote FX, users will be able to work remotely in a Windows Aero desktop environment, watch full-motion video, enjoy Silverlight animations, and run 3D applications – all with the fidelity of a local-like performance when connecting over the LAN.

Remote FX requires a SLAT (Second-Level Address Translation) processor and a GPU supporting DirectX 9.0c and DirectX 10.0.

    Windows 7

Windows 7 benefits from hotfix rollups and 30 something security fixes.

Configuration Manager R3 Beta now available

Microsoft announced the availability of System Centre Configuration Manager 2007 R3 Beta, the day before Earth Day 2010.  This coincided with the Power Management features in the R3 release.

    • R3 allows you to enter the cost per KwH (Kilowatt Hour) of energy in your area, and from this work out your Carbon Footprint or carbon emissions.
    • With the updated R3 client you may determine computer pattern usage and configure the power management features in your Windows operating systems accordingly.
    • Computers may be configured to power on in the middle of the night when they are not being used and check for Microsoft or third party updates, install and then power off.  This saves energy, money.
